Community Classes

What we do:

Project HEALTH (Helping Every Ability Learn To be Healthy) Community Classes are free, adaptive health and wellness classes available to people of all abilities. Classes include circuit training, cardio, yoga, nutrition, step aerobics, functional movements, as well as various sports and games. Our classes help to improve muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance, and healthy nutrition tips that participants can take and include in their daily lives. Project HEALTH Classes are led by certified instructors who offer a fun, welcoming, and energetic environment for everyone involved. Check out our calendar for updates on class locations and times.

Project HEALTH Certification Workshop

The workshop will include professional guest speakers, hands- on leadership opportunities, and education on important aspects of Project HEALTH:

  • Group Leadership & Teaching Skills

Registration for the educational workshop, HEALTH Instructor Certification, and Project HEALTH Curriculum Book is only $250!
The only prerequisite we require is First Aid/CPR Certification. Proof of your current First Aid/CPR Certification must be shown on the first day of the workshop.

Success Stories:

We would like to introduce Blaine. Blaine attends the Metro Parks Disability Program where he participates in Project HEALTH three to four times per week. One of his favorite parts of Project HEALTH is water aerobics and the Friday classes held at McCabe Park Community Center. Blaine has made a commitment to improve his health by participating in Project HEALTH so often! He has even started to exercise on his own at home. His mother said that he watches workout videos and practices some of the moves.

Another way he is committed to improving his health is by drinking more water. In November 2013, Blaine weighed in at 400 pounds.  By meeting with his parents and getting them to focus on changes in his diet and restricting his soda intake, we were able to get his weight down to 380 pounds by May 2014 and 365 by June.  He is continuing to make great progress and shows continued commitment to eating better and shedding pounds.  We are so proud of him!

We all know someone who has come up with a plan to lose weight, eat healthier, and make major changes towards becoming a happier and healthier person. While there are many great success stories, there are few that rival Sharmane’s. When Sharmane worked with the Sports 4 All staff on a plan towards a healthier life in 2013 we weren’t expecting the intensity and results that she has achieved. In November, 2013 Sharmane was an intern at Sports 4 All and a participant in Project HEALTH. She weighed 150 pounds and had a BMI over 31. Sharmane approached our staff asking for tips on how to eat healthier and exercise regularly. She began tracking her meals and workouts daily in a journal. She worked on small steps like simple food substitutions and portion control, and added goals of exercising a certain number of days each week. While taking part in Project HEALTH, Sharmane paid extra attention to the activities she was taking part in and asked lots of questions on how to do similar workouts at home. With a clear plan and determination Sharmane lost 28 lbs and lowered her BMI to 25.9 in just 12 months! Not only is she making smarter choices with her nutrition but she has picked up many new healthy hobbies, including Power Lifting, where she was selected to represent the state of Tennessee at the 2016 Special Olympics World games in Los Angeles (medlaing 3 times)! Congrats to Sharmane for all of her hard work and dedication, we’re excited to see her continue to reach new goals!
